Paul and I loves to eats a lot, that’s why BubblyFluffy was created for me to have a food online journal since I love to take photos and we’ve been to places just to eat out. He is my best bud when it comes to eating. Meanwhile, one Saturday evening when we decided to eat somewhere in Shaw Boulevard, Mandaluyong City. Walking along the Shaw Boulevard and looking for a place to dine when we saw Rufo’s. Everytime, we passed by at Shaw Boulevard, we always tell that we should eat there and finally we were able to do so.

Rufo’s is known for its Tapa (friend neef strips) – TapSI (Tapa, Sinangag at Itlog) at its best. Rufo’s does exist for ages now and the first branch is located at Makati Avenue, Makati City.

In 1984, a group of officemates opened a small eatery along Kalayaan Ave. corner Salamanca St. across the International School Manila in Makati City. Their goal was simple: open a cozy 24-hour hangout, sell cheap beer, serve delicious Pinoy comfort food, and earn extra income. They decided on the unique and catchy name, “Rufo’s”, the name of their boss at work.

For decades, Rufo’s built a cult following for serving their iconic Tapsilog, or Tapa (fried beef strips), Sinangag (garlic rice) and Itlog (fried egg) -- a Filipino “All-Day Breakfast” dish. Rufo’s tapa recipe was so famous for its rich, sweet, mouth-watering sauce that customers swore by its slogan, “Sauce Pa Lang, Ulam Na!” (“The Sauce is a Dish on its Own!”). The success of this Makati eatery helped popularize the local Tapsihan, a Philippine version of the American Diner, serving local breakfast fare 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

By 2003, businessman Paul Izon Reyes acquired the store, founded Rufo’s Famous Franchise Corporation, and engineered the brand’s expansion through Franchising. Reyes, a fan of Rufo’s (since his student days in the International School Manila), professionalized its business systems and partnered with Francorp, the world leader in franchise development, to create the Rufo’s Famous Franchise Program. Today, Rufo’s operates a chain of 24/7 fast-casual Filipino restaurants all over Metro Manila and nearby provinces.

Aside from TapSI, sizzling sisig, nilaga, soup, to name a few are also part of their menu. Thus, if you feel like not in the mood of eating beef then Rufo’s still has something for you to offer. We ordered TapSIlog (P108), soup of the day (which I forgot the name for more or less P50) and sizzling sisig (P146). I loved sisig that’s why it’s a must try for me. Well, the verdict for the sisig is good. It taste crunchy and appetizing so no need to add flavorings like the usual thing. I just found the TapSI a bit sweet but vinegar is within reach if you wanted to put something to complement the taste. Soup was creamy and appetizing and I liked it, too.

For less than P500, Paul and I had a sweet and yummy dinner – the Filipino way. So, if you’re on the lookout for something affordable and yet delicious Filipino cuisine, I assure you Rufo’s will not disappoint you. By the way, you can also order online and have it deliver to you.

And now I’m craving for these foods.. Argghh, this is the disadvantage of having a food blog, you get hungry while writing & editing a blog post & photos.

On the other note, the rain pours heavily here in Valenzuela City (where I live) and Sta.Mesa, Manila City (‘coz P informed me) and I guess on the other part of the Metro. So, keep safe and dry everyone.

didn't like their tapa. too saucy & sweet :( i prefer rodics! Yumm!
